Great Ocean Road
woensdag, 10 september 2008

This time I was a bit quicker with posting my notes for a travel buddy. The second day in Adelaide I was called by Maria from Valencia, Spain.

Because she was a little bit in a hurry, we left the next morning for our trip to Melbourne. It was not that far, but we decided to make it a nice sightseeing trip of 5 days.

We actually had no clue where to go during the trip except from a few places. We had a little brake at Meningie where we asked a guy for some nice spots nearby. I think he missed the word “nearby”, because he planned our whole trip to Melbourne and even further to Sydney.

We continued…At the first places there was actually not much to see. Except from the beautiful beaches and wildlife.

I think it was in Dunkeld where we had the honour to meet a guy from Melbourne. He was on his push-bike and not just that day. He was cycling for 17 months now. He started his trip in Portugal, trough Europe all the way to and trough Asia. Then on the boat to Darwin, down to Adelaide and on his way to back Melbourne. Almost 30.000 km. Stupid enough, I forgot his name, which is worth mentioning…

The interesting part started at Grampians National Park. Afters an ascent and decent of a mountain and hand-feeding some beautiful birds (sorry, don’t have the pictures yet), we spend two hours painting a boomerang.Cool

Yeah, the weather was not that good, early that day. But at about four, when finished painting, we did some nice walks at the NP. With astonishing (did I use that word before? I don’t think so…) views and lookouts.

Then, finally, the Great Ocean Road!! It’s a long curved road, along the coast, between Warrnambool and Torquay. One of the most famous attractions along this coast is the Twelve Apostles. A, (I think) lime stone, rock formation just a couple of meters offshore at Port Campbell National Park. I thought one of my eyes was not working, but it’s right, there are just six Apostles left. But if you cross-eye…

But off course, there was more to see. We went to some stupid :) light house with some walking tracks. I don’t know why it was even there, it was so boring. But on the way back to the main road, we met a few koala’s. One was even walking towards us on the road. We stepped out of the car and had a little chat with him. After an intense discussion about if you should be able to order a McKoala-burger at McDonalds, he ran up a tree and we continued the trip to Melbourne.
